The Hooded Man

It’s taken some time, but The Hooded Man is finally here..

Getting a role playing game to the published stage is a long process, and this is one of the reasons there’s been such a long period between Paleomythic and The Hooded Man. Of course, life also gets in the way; I have a demanding job which takes up a good portion of my time.

I write a lot. For every game I work on, there’s many more earlier and abandoned versions. I’ll also work on other games; some are still in development, and may stay that way for years, to perhaps see the light of day in the future. Some have been abandoned, and won’t be seen again (unless they get a visit from the book necromancer, to be resurrected as twisted, unfinished games…)

The Hooded Man is the latest version of the mechanics I used for Paleomythic. The system is different, a little leaner in places, a few tweaks here and there, but it still shares a good portion of its’ DNA with Paleomythic. For those familiar with Paleomythic, you can expect to see traits and talents. They’re different of course, but function in a similar way. Like Paleomythic, you’re rolling six sided dice and looking for 6’s. Simple.

The setting for The Hooded Man is medieval England. In the game, you’re outlaws facing a tyrannical sheriff. Yes, it’s Robin Hood, but it’s more than that too. This is a game of survival in a harsh world. You are peasant outlaws, not wealthy knights. It’s therefore a game where working together is the difference between life and death. You’ll be able to create an outlaw camp, instal traps, build workshops and grow food. Occasionally you’ll need to sneak into Nottingham to fence stolen goods, visit villages to get them allied to your cause, and perhaps build an army to fight a battle.

You can play it solo too.

I hope you’ll like it.
